A Whistleblower Lawsuit filed in Hawaii alleges several churches, including Calvary Chapel, failed to pay the State over $5 million in alleged schemes to defraud the government.
According to a news report on khon2.com, a Fox affiliate local news station in Honolulu, Hawaii, the churches allegedly filed false statements paying less than they were supposed to pay.
“The way that they do it is they fill out false application forms that say they’re only using the gym or the cafeteria for a few hours when in fact they’re using it for the entire day or the entire weekend,” plantiff’s attorney James Bickerton said.
In addition to Calvary Chapel, New Hope Church and One Love Ministries are also implicated in the lawsuit.
